Dance colleges in London?

March 18, 2016

Dance colleges in London, if you’ve noticed, tend to offer singing and acting as part of their dance courses. There are, in fact, very few specialist dance colleges in London. There is, however, only one specialist dance college in London that focuses solely on commercial dance, and that is us – Dance College London. We’re actually the only specialist commercial dance college in the UK!

Train at Dance College London
If you’re looking at really progressing your career and getting into the commercial dance industry, we can help. We have a world-class team of teachers that love teaching a comprehensive range of dance styles and moves. These dance moves might include Pliés, Indian step, Bogle, Robocop, Jack in a Box, Split Leap, Stomps, Skeeter Rabbit, Fresno or Waacks.

We love commercial dance
We love all aspects of commercial dance here at Dance College London. Whether you want to improve your Ballet, master some new moves in B-Boying or get a feel for Contemporary and Street, we have considerable expertise in each discipline. Dancehall and Hip Hop, House and Jazz are all covered in our commercial dance courses, along with Krumping, Locking, Popping and Waacking.

We also teach Freestyle…
We also teach Freestyle. But, you may ask how and why would we teach Freestyle here at Dance College London. That’s a good question since there is no such dance style as Freestyle, as it’s open to the individual dancer’s interpretation. Street Dance is not really a dance style, as it’s an umbrella term that covers a whole raft of dances that were created ‘in the street’.

So, why do we teach Freestyle and Ballet?
Simple. In auditions, directors and agents can ask commercial dancers to perform basic Ballet moves such as Pliés, Pirouette and Écarté Devant right at the beginning of the audition. Those that can’t do Ballet are out. The reason? Ballet influences so many other dance styles so it’s actually the cornerstone of any reputable commercial dance college. Another way of reducing the numbers at an audition is to ask the dancer to Freestyle.

Hence, we prepare our students for successful outcomes at auditions by planning, practicing and executing well thought-out Freestyle routines. Just one of the differences that you’ll find here at Dance College London, as we’re all professional dancers who know the commercial dance industry inside out.
